  1. 2020 Pilot International Convention & Leadership Conference Anchor and Compass Clubs Susan Woodward Anchor/Compass Specialist June 24, 2020

  2. Why Anchor and Compass? Community Leadership Friendship With volunteer projects as diverse as the schools and communities where they are found, Anchor and Compass Club members take action where they are needed most: right in their own communities. Members learn and develop the rewarding skills of service and leadership and a keen awareness of volunteer opportunities that will last a lifetime. Through volunteer service, Anchor and Compass Club members learn to become the dynamic leaders of tomorrow. Anchor Club service is more powerful when you volunteer with friends, old and new. Serving as part of a team creates rewarding and fun-filled experiences. Club membership is a stellar addition to any resume or application. Additionally, Anchor Club membership may allow you eligibility for scholarship funds awarded by Pilot International. Compass Clubs bridge the gap between Anchor and Pilot and provide membership-for-life opportunities, ensuring the longevity of Pilot International. The expansion of Pilot through Compass allows the entire organization to have a greater impact on communities all over the world.

  5. Working with Pilots What are the benefits of becoming a sponsoring Pilot club to Anchor and Compass Clubs? Sponsoring an Anchor and/or Compass Club can: Reenergize your Pilot Club with new vision and enthusiasm. Provide the Pilot Club with a group of young people to mentor and share ideas with. Add new dimension and direction for your Pilot Club, increasing membership and service projects for years to come! Working with Anchor and Compass Clubs gives you the opportunity to share your experiences and ideas, while influencing young adults to continue in Pilot service for many years.

  6. Responsibilities of Sponsoring Pilot Clubs Understand the objectives of an Anchor Club. Remember you are working with the future members of Pilot International. Make sure the most informed and enthusiastic Pilots members are on the club's Anchor Division. Maintain a spirit of friendship between Pilot and Anchor members and make sure they understand their relationship with the Pilot organization. Have joint outings, programs and projects. Have open communications, regular contact and support, and joint activities involving Anchor members. Invite Anchor Club members to attend Pilot meetings during the year (including the Official Visit meeting). Encourage Pilot members to attend Anchor Club meetings. Check with the adviser to assist with refreshments, and sharing information about upcoming events. Pilots should be ready, willing and able to offer counsel, if asked. They should not, however, monopolize the Anchor meeting, try to dictate to the members, or assume the authority of the adviser. Honor graduating Anchor Club members with a special activity before their graduation. At this event, encourage them to continue their service through Compass. Know about activities: projects undertaken, election of officers, times and places of meetings, etc.

  7. Rewards of Sponsoring Pilot Clubs Insuring the future of an individual Pilot Club and a healthier international organization with former Anchors joining Pilot. Increased visibility in local community as Anchors become active in service. Increased opportunities to assist young people in experiencing the friendship and service, the developing leadership and public relations skills, and gaining information about the Pilot International Foundation and the service focus of Brain- Related Disorders. Additional hands for joint activities including hands-on service and fund-raising projects. Seeing young people reach their potential through service. Ensuring Pilot s future by encouraging Anchors to continue in service with Compass and Pilot!
