Empowering Care Home Staff: Building Bridges for Compassionate Care
Enhancing care in care homes through building relationships, strengthening networks, and increasing education and confidence of care home workers. The project aims to create a compassionate and supportive working environment for care home staff focusing on relationships and staff wellbeing, with a vision to improve care quality. Integration through education and the Schwartz Philosophy are key methods to achieve their goals. Providing a forum to discuss emotional and social aspects of healthcare, particularly through Schwartz rounds, aims to support and empower all staff members.

In 1994 a health attorney called Ken Schwartz was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. I have learned that medicine is not merely about performing tests or surgeries, or administering drugs For as skilled and knowledgeable as my caregivers are, what matters most is that they have empathized with me in a way that gives me hope and makes me feel like a human being, not just an illness. Why are Schwartz rounds needed in healthcare? Caring for Care Homes Hammersmith and Fulham GP Federation
Format of Schwartz round Rounds follow a standard model to ensure that they are replicable across settings. Rounds normally take place once a month for an hour at a time with catering provided before the Round. Once the Round starts, a panel, comprised of three or four staff, share their experiences for the first 15-20 minutes. Caring for Care Homes Hammersmith and Fulham GP Federation
