  1. By Laura Hay, Matt Parsons, Kaila Oberhaus, and Colton Geary

  2. What is Oxfam? Focuses on completing humanitarian engineering work Create sustainable and green solutions Their primary goal is to end poverty around the world Works in communities in over 90 countries Oxfam has existed for 70 years Based out of Oxford, England Through engineering efforts and solutions, Oxfam believes that creating a world without poverty in the near future is possible

  3. Chemical Engineering Relevant Engineering Disciplines Those who conceive and design processes to produce, transform, and transport materials - beginning with experimentation in the laboratory followed by implementation of the technology in full-scale production. How they are helping Oxfam: Inter-working of the design of solar panels. Chemical processes that make them function Better sustainable process of water purification.

  4. Mechanical Engineering Relevant Engineering Disciplines Those concerned primarily with the industrial application of mechanics and with the production of tools, machinery, and their products. How they are helping Oxfam: Design and build water pumps that can go deeper and can be run off of solar power. Build stands/mounts for solar panels on to houses that may not have the best structure.

  5. Electrical Engineering Relevant Engineering Disciplines Branch of engineering that deals with the practical use of electricity in machines, power storage, computers, etc. How they are helping Oxfam: Solar panel designs Circuit designs from solar panels in houses Wiring the solar panels to connect to storing batteries as well as lights

  6. Solar Energy Pilot Project Technical Product/Process Location: Solar Energy Benefits Ghana, Africa - - - Renewable energy A long-term solution Run the refrigerators at the clinics Is able to power pumps that can reach deep water sources Goal: Provide 1 solar panel, 3 LED lights and a battery to store energy for each household. -

  7. Oxfam Predictions In the next 5 years . Solar panels in Ghana will continue to increase. Oxfam s work will expand to other developing nations. Oxfam s company will continue to grow.

  8. Growth of Oxfam An increasing number of academic institutions have offered humanitarian engineering minors and coursework Humanitarian engineering aligns perfectly with the goals that Oxfam is trying to accomplish Colleges prepare more students for opportunities in humanitarian engineering so there will be stronger candidates for Oxfam to employ With the expansion of humanitarian engineering education, Oxfam will reach new levels of success with engineers trained in solving the problems that Oxfam seeks to solve
