GMPA Strategic Priorities Boosting household income and financial resilience Ensuring stakeholders in GM embed a strong strategic approach to tackling poverty Embedding the voices of people with lived experience in the decision-making structures and systems of GM
The value of lived experience engagement Involving the voices of lived experience of poverty and socio- economic disadvantage is crucial to effective policy practice Understanding individual and collective experiences of poverty, and ensuring that these are accurately represented, can significantly strengthen decision-making processes One aim of programmes like Poverty Truth Commissions is to establish sustainable mechanisms for lived experience engagement In Tameside, they are using feedback from their PTC to explore a permanent poverty group led by lived experience
Lived experience in Greater Manchester decision making Bury Council Poverty Strategy: There is the need for open and honest conversations on terminology which undermines or degrades individuals even when it is not set out to do so. The voice of those experiencing hardship is critical to this, so that collectively we can develop a shared understanding and language locally which is clear and respectful; understood and constructive. Key Action - Conduct listening sessions and facilitated focus groups to capture additional insight on lived experience of socio-economic vulnerability in the Borough to identify most prevalent local stigmas and experiences of bias
