  2. Disability Employment Initative History US Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration and Office of Disability Employment Partnership Eight rounds of funding with focus to increase capacity of workforce systems to serve Individuals with Disabilities

  3. Disability Employment Initative History Operational since 2010 Established the Disability Resource Coordinator Role Currently grant funded through NYSDOL

NY SCION The goal of SCION was to expand the already successful network of Disability Resource Coordinators (DRCs) to all 33 Local Workforce Development Areas to increase the capacity of their service delivery and better serve individuals with disabilities Overarching goal of systemic change for employment for people with disabilities

  5. One Stop Career Center Overview Career guidance through 1:1 appointments with career center staff, workshops, career assessments, training, and referral for further assistance in the community Youth services up to age 24 can include more specialized services for that population, including summer employment opportunities

  6. One Stop Career Center Overview Many career centers have a resource room with computers to use for job search, printing/faxing Business services at the career center have connections with employers, and may assist with holding recruiting events at the career center or in the community

  7. Career Centers and DRCs Internal and external referrals to the DRC Transitional coordination between services that an individual receives Resource mapping Specialized workshops

Partnering with Independent Living Centers Local Independent Living Centers offer vital community resources A Career Pathway is a strategy used to support transitions from education into and through the workforce. They are an integrated collection of programs and services intended to develop students core academic, technical and employability skills; provide them with continuous education, training; and place them in high-demand, high- opportunity jobs. DRCs are working to create a strong referral system between career centers and Independent Living Centers

  9. Integrated Resource Team (IRT) Model Service delivery strategy involving coordination of services Person-centered approach Partnership between diverse service providers around the jobseeker s employment goal

  10. Benefits Advisement DRCs work with Supplemental Security Income (SSI)/Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries to understand the impact of working on their benefits Inform beneficiaries of the work incentives available to them to return to work/try work for the first time

  11. Benefits Advisement DRC can provide work incentives overview training to participants in community. Participants then may choose to work with DRC at the career center for more 1:1 service, including communicating with SSA, trial work period tracking, reporting wages, submitting documents for impairment related work expenses, etc.

  12. Ticket to Work Social Security work incentive program supporting career development for people with disabilities who want to work SSDI or SSI beneficiaries between the ages of 18-64 may qualify Free and voluntary program Assists beneficiaries progress toward financial independence

  13. Business Connections and Education Encourage the development of inclusive employment opportunities and practices. This means providing information on applicable laws and accommodations and supporting businesses to implement inclusive hiring and retention practices. Educate employers, answer questions, and promote inclusion within career center business services including OJTs and IWTs.

  16. SCION Key Points Research your local career center and promote the use of it to clients Connect with your local DRC, and refer individuals who can benefit from assistance with resource coordination Utilize the DRC as a resource for questions on SSDI/SSI work incentives and Medicaid/Medicare

  17. Local Area DRC Contact Information Contact information for your local DRC can be found on DOL s website: https://dol.ny.gov/career-services/career-services-for- persons-with-disabilities If your area has a vacancy, you are encouraged to reach out to DRCs from a neighboring county.
