Who We Are: AAUW advances equity for women and girls through Advocacy, Education, Philanthropy, Research
YOU ARE A LEADER, NOW WHAT? What do you want to accomplish in your term? Set inclusive goals Plan -Plan - Plan. (strategic planning). Be long range in your goals think about how today impacts the future. Lead with kindness, but lead regardless. Respect!! Collaborate - get buy in from your committees or boards. Welcome input, but know where you are heading. Don t squander the admiration of others.
KEEP YOUR OFFICER AND CONTACT INFO UP-TO-DATE Make sure your contact info is up to date both on the National website and with the state! Without accurate contact info, you will miss vital information which will enable you to be successful If you have a website, remember to update that as well!
READ YOUR EMAIL AND RESPOND! If you don t have time, or are not technologically comfortable, assign a team member to summarize the info and share it with you and/or the board Make sure your contact info is up to date!
WHAT DOES THE BOARD DO? Position Descriptions at www.aauw.org Good descriptions that outline: Responsibilities to Branch Responsibilities to Your State Responsibilities to AAUW Leadership Skill helpful to the Position Time Commitments

BOARD MEETINGS What You Want Someone to Feel When They Leave The Meeting: The meeting was consequential The meeting was efficient I mattered I know what happens next
GETTING TEAM MEMBERS INVOLVED Brainstorm solutions: go around group rather than just those that speak up Ask questions to involve quieter team members Don t let one person dominate; ask another person to share Don t let group get stuck on one point; summarize, determine action, move on
ROBERTS RULES OF ORDER Make your meetings more effective and ensure you do things legally! Mimi Welch, AAUW FL Parliamentarian
Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time-bound Branch members will work together to increase branch membership by 20 percent by June 2019.
Work with Other Community Groups Other groups share our goals. Work with them on a project that builds on that shared interest. Collaborating with other groups can make projects more affordable and bring skills we need for a successful program. A program or project is a date , not a marriage . You can work with several different organizations on different projects that reflect those shared interests.
DELEGATION Barriers to delegation include: I can do it better myself People don t follow through People will think I don t want to do the work myself I am not open to different ways of doing things Delegation is way too much work
DELEGATION JUMP IN, JUST DO IT!! Be clear on what you are asking Delegate the objective, not the procedure: don tmicromanage How can I help you? Be patient remember you asked them to do it Be prepared for difficulties help but try not to take task back Say "Thank You. (again and again!)
