How did the Town Council get involved in the Liskeard Together Project? In the autumn of 2017 the Town Council and our partners at Cornwall Housing, Cornwall Council and ECCABI were keen to do something regarding the poor deprivation indices in Liskeard. Not least because of additional concern regarding the socio and economic impact of the staged introduction of Universal Credit. We submitted a bid for funds to carry out a project called : Liskeard Together

5 ways to wellbeing Connect e.g. build social relationships, spend time with friends and family Be active e.g. engage in regular physical activity Take notice e.g. be mentally present , focus on awareness and appreciation Keep learning e.g. maintain curiosity about the world, try new things Give e.g. make a positive contribution to the lives of others .
What is the Liskeard Together Project? Liskeard place-based project supporting out of work residents to reconnect with their community and prosper The project will support 222 out of work residents in Liskeard to undertake learning and basic skills and address issues of isolation and wellbeing by participating in community projects. With flexible pathways for different needs, we will provide a menu of modules to support residents to flourish. These activities mirror the 5 ways to wellbeing (connect, be active, take notice, learn, and give). All participants will benefit from Moneybox training. An outdoor /indoor spaces module will support participants to tidy and shape green spaces and gardens in the town supported by volunteers, residents will be able to learn new skills and improve wellbeing while helping improve the town.
Key to the project is building relationships with employers and local agencies to ensure a shared commitment to local people and the future of the market town. Participants will be able to organise events to host discussions and networking to discuss how Liskeard can work better together. This project builds on the successful partnership between Cornwall Housing and ECCABI, with Learning Partnership the accountable body. Both Liskeard Town Council and Cornwall Council (C&F) are match funding partners. With a formal evaluation, this project tests how the community can be part of supporting local prosperity and helping residents in poverty to be part of the community and flourish. By supporting people to re-engage with the community, individual wellbeing is improved and the town as a body of people and connections between them grows. It will look at how community activity can enable tenancy sustainment and prevent homelessness.
