About this Presentation This presentation will orient various governance groups and decision-makers to the work of the DEI in Curriculum Workgroup with the goal of garnering institutional and fiscal support for development of a robust DEI in Curriculum course for faculty and faculty administrators: My COR has More

  3. About the COR CORs (Course Outlines of Record) are required by ed code, Title 5 550002 to ensure consistency of instruction across every course section on campus CORs are considered the contract with the student, and faculty are expected to deliver instruction at the section level in accordance with the COR CORs are created by discipline faculty and reviewed by an interdisciplinary committee of their peers through a robust shared governance process COR development has historically focused on subject matter content and compliance with external standards and regulation

  4. Why do CORs Need More? There is a documented history of the inequity of the California Community Colleges Curriculum design can normalize privilege Embedded bias has historically existed within courses and disciplines which impacts students sense of belonging, engagement, and persistence CORs often reflect bias or overlook opportunities for increasing equity in the classroom experience There is often a disconnect between COR design and classroom practices

  5. Opportunity Do faculty understand how CORs may provide a template for ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion in the COR? Do faculty know how to leverage equitable practices in their courses? Might CORs help faculty more easily access and understand equitable frameworks for course design and classroom instruction within their specific discipline?

  6. How to add More to the COR The DEI in Curriculum Workgroup proposes development of an incentivized and facilitated Canvas course teaching faculty and administrators how course outlines and programs can be developed in an equitable and culturally responsive manner.
