  4. BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT For individuals living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) in Kogi State, Nigeria, the fight against the virus is compounded by a pervasive and harmful reality: stigma and discrimination. This deeply ingrained prejudice discourages healthcare seeking, hinders treatment adherence, and ultimately jeopardizes the well-being of PLHIV. Despite the existence of a federal anti-discrimination law, Kogi State lacks its own legal framework specifically addressing these issues. This legal lacuna leaves PLHIV vulnerable to discrimination in crucial areas like healthcare, employment, and education. Consequently, the state faces significant challenges in achieving the UNAIDS 95- 95-95 targets and the Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well- being. INITIATIVE FOR GRASSROOT ADVANCEMENT (INGRA)

  5. ABOUT THE PROJECT This project, funded by AHF, aims to empower policymakers and advocate for the passage of the Kogi State Anti-Stigma Discrimination Law. This comprehensive legislation aims to: Protect PLHIV from discrimination in various spheres, including healthcare, employment, and education. Promote inclusive healthcare service provision free from stigma and prejudice. Combat the harmful consequences of stigma, improving health outcomes for PLHIV. This project builds upon the existing momentum within Kogi State, where stakeholders recognize the need for change. By addressing the legal and societal barriers faced by PLHIV, this initiative has the potential to create a more just and equitable society, paving the way for a healthier future for all.
