
Empowering Students in the Fight Against COVID-19 at Shivaji University

Introduction :- The Shivaji University, Kolhapur has satisfied that the state of Maharashtra is threatened with the spread of Covid-19 Virus, which has already been declared as a pandemic by World health Organization as well as Govt. of India & Govt. of Maharashtra and it is necessary to take certain further emergency measures to prevent and contain the spread of virus, as per the Government in exercise of powers conferred under section 2 of The Epidemic Disease Act 1897with all other enabling provisions of the Disaster Management act 2005 the Shivaji University has issued specific circulars for proper guidelines and all colleges, establishments under the University were close their operation except essential service provider.
Introduction :- The Shivaji University, Kolhapur has taken initiative with a view to involve students of university for working voluntarily in the program for fight against covid 19. Under Guidance of Hon ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Devanand Shinde, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. D. T. Shirke, Registrar Dr. V. D. Nandvadekar and NSS Director Shri. Abhay Jaibhaye, Disaster Management Cell Director Prof. Dr. D. K. Gaikwad the University NSS Cell has actively Planned and implemented different activities like Participation and promotion of 'Janata curfew' and Free Distribution of Medical Hand Sanitizer, Mask, Handgloves as well as free Distribution of food packets, food grains with mass awareness about proper personal hygine and promotion of stay at home during lockdown period with active participation of all NSS Volunteers and Programme Officers.
Outcome of the Plan :- Till date near about 28000 students as well as citizens of Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara District were agreed to participate in fight against COVID 19. University has created Separate WhatsApp groups for NSS Male Volunteers and NSS Female Volunteers named UNISHIVAJI FIGHT AGAINST COVID -19 . All the training material received by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare that is uploaded regularly on the group. Hon ble Vice Chancellor, Hon ble Pro Vice Chancellor and Registrar, as well as Director of NSS and Director of Disaster Management Cell and Medical officer, NSS Programme Officers are admin of the group and they are responsible for answering and Proper Guidance the queries pertaining to the COVID-19. The students are instructed to create awareness about COVID-19 among their friends, colleagues, family members, relatives and neighbourers.
Outcome of the Plan :- Apart from this nearly 5000 NSS students have pledged their support to fight against COVID-19 and University NSS Program Officers coordinating their work. Near about 10000 students have been downloaded AROGY-SETU app for COVID Self Testing and create awareness. All the enrolled students are creating awareness about COVID 19 in their areas of residence not only in the Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara district but also at Taluka / Block level like Gadhinglaj, Ichalkaranji, Jaysingpur, Pethwadgao, Radhanagari, Shahuwadi, Miraj, Islampur, Shirala, Vita, Tasgaon, Atpadi, Kadegaon, Palus, Karad, Phaltan, Dahiwadi, Rahimatpur, Koregaon, Wai, Medha, Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani etc. Ajra, Chandgad,
