  1. What do we want when we want attention? What are we hoping for by being noticed? What do I want when I want to win? What am I aiming for when I aim my life at some aspiration? - James KA Smith

  2. A life of ambition: Win or quit. Get on top or get out. Christian faith: Soli deo gloria, live for the glory of God.

  3. Psalm 29:2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

  4. The glory of God is all the Lords greatness and goodness and holiness fulfilled. It s his greatness on display. When something wows us or restores us or overwhelms us with joy and all we can say is: that had to be the Lord God! We encounter the glory of God when we feel or experience or are in awe of the whole weight of who God really is!

  5. How does our worship lead us to do this, so that we live all of life not for ourselves but for the Lord? Our worship centers on Jesus. Because Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of God s glory.

  6. Hebrews 1:3 The Son is the radiance of God s glory and the exact representation of his being, John 1:14b We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 12:41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus glory and spoke about him. Luke 21:27 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

  7. How does our worship lead us to do this, so that we live all of life not for ourselves but for the Lord? 1) Our worship centers on Jesus. 2) Our worship practice of confession and assurance

  8. 1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

  9. How does our worship lead us to do this, so that we live all of life not for ourselves but for the Lord? 1) Our worship centers on Jesus. 2) Our worship practice of confession and assurance 3) Reciting creeds and confessions out loud together

  10. What God asks of us is prodigal action: to work to love your city, to make beautiful things, and to care for the welfare of your neighbors, even if there are more efficient means available. Waiting on God s gracious will, which defies our expectations, appears to be foolish. But our task is not to spend time pondering success, but to obey orders. TS Eliot said: For us there is only the trying / The rest is not our business. God s kingdom doesn t come through success, but through faithfulness. - Alan Noble
