Al Anon Family Groups E-Conference 2024 Self Supporting Finance
Self Supporting Finance Tradition Seven states Every group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions. Where has GSO come from: We are striving to be more self reliant and not rely on funding from Trust Our Net Deficit has improved over the last year Steps have been taken to ensure that expenses are well controlled and in terms of budget
Self Supporting Finance Where we need help: TO INCREASE THE INCOME OF GSO GSO receives Income from: Literature sales to areas Literature sales through online bookstore Contributions from our 3 areas Direct contributions from groups Direct contributions from members
Self Supporting Finance Over the past year, contributions from the areas, from groups and from individual members has increased. But why should we give to GSO? Page 18 of our Service Manual says We contribute in gratitude for what we have received from Al-Anon. We contribute to ensure that our primary purpose to help families of alcoholics (from the Suggested Preamble to the Twelve Steps) continues at all levels of Al-Anon. We contribute to ensure that all levels of Al-Anon, not only our home groups, are able to be self supporting in terms of the Seventh Tradition. Page 18 of our Service Manual says we pass the basket to cover group expenses .and support of our service arms
Self Supporting Finance But are we allowed to contribute directly to GSO? Yes - Page 55 of our Service Manual says ..individuals may contribute directly .. Is this not against tradition Four that says Each group should be autonomous.. ? affecting another group or Al-Anon or AA as a whole . No Tradition Four goes on to say that ..except in matters Not ensuring that our areas, our GSO and WSO are self supporting is affecting Al-Anon as a whole.
Self Supporting Finance So, . : How do we encourage our groups and members to support GSO directly? How do we encourage and support our members, groups, areas and GSO to ensure we are self supporting? How do we ensure that our financial information / resources are communicated and shared down the structure to all areas, groups and members? How do we encourage our groups and areas to share and communicate their financial information and resources. How can we assist in increasing our financial income at our group, our area and at GSO?
