  2. The need for and role of innovation support in emerging technologies Net Zero Innovation Portfolio The Net Zero Innovation Portfolio provides funding for low-carbon technologies and systems. Decreasing the costs of decarbonisation, the Portfolio will help enable the UK to end its contribution to climate change. The Portfolio will decrease the costs of decarbonisation and set the UK on the path to a low carbon future. It will create world-leading industries and new green jobs, invest in our regions, and help make the UK a science and innovation superpower. Energy Innovation Needs Assessments The Energy Innovation Needs Assessments (EINAs) support evidence and analysis on the role of different technologies in the UK s future energy system. Longer Duration Energy Storage Demonstration Programme Through the Longer Duration Energy Storage Demonstration Programme, BEIS has awarded 6.7 million in funding for 24 innovative longer duration energy storage projects.   3. An insight into BEIS recent Longer Duration Energy Storage Demonstration (LODES) Nearly 7 million government funding for energy storage technologies that are key to UK s renewable energy future. Under Phase 1 of the Longer Duration Energy Storage Demonstration competition, 24 projects will be supported through over 6.7m of government funding for first-of-a-kind longer duration energy storage technologies that can utilise stored energy as heat, electricity or as a low-carbon energy carrier like hydrogen. Energy & Climate Change Minister Greg Hands said: Driving forward energy storage technologies will be vital in our transition towards cheap, clean and secure renewable energy. It will allow us to extract the full benefit from our home-grown renewable energy sources, drive down costs and end our reliance on volatile and expensive fossil fuels. Through this competition we are making sure the country s most innovative scientists and thinkers have our backing to make this ambition a reality. Energy Storage Summit

IEAs Technology Collaboration Programme for Energy Storage The Energy Storage Technology Collaboration Programme (ES TCP) facilitates integral research, development, implementation and integration of energy storage technologies. ES TCP is one of 38 Technology Collaboration Programmes (TCP s) within the International Energy Agency (IEA). The IEA Energy Storge TCP is organised into tasks covering: - Energy storage in energy systems - Materials and components - Technology improvements Large-Scale, Medium-Duration Energy Storage To support the introduction of medium-duration energy storage systems into energy systems worldwide, as a significant contribution towards achieving Net-Zero both affordably and quickly.
