  2. About me: -15 year teaching career spanning Asia to my hometown of Houston. - Worked in: FBISD, LCISD, SBISD, and HISD. -Published author & freelance writer; former contributing blogger at Houston Press. -I enjoy reading, sports, cooking, animals, and going home to my quiet apartment.

  3. This Class: I view it as my responsibility to prepare your child for the rigors of high school and beyond. My main goal is to improve your child s abilities as a writer. I believe writing well is an essential skill. It is my promise to do whatever I can to help them be successful, but more importantly to feel successful.

  4. Content Overview Writing: Personal narrative; expository/informational essays; crafting thesis statements; poetry; rhetoric and persuasion. Reading: fiction; non-fiction; poetry; news and op-ed; novels, including The Outsiders and Lord of the Flies; various short stories.

  5. Grades Obviously, grades are important, but so is learning to think critically about the world and ourselves. Grades come from quizzes, classwork, essays, and the daily writing assignments in our English journals. I m here to help. Email with any questions: samuel.brown2@houstonisd.org
