Demographic shifts have created a battle for employees The The Baby Boomers: 59- 76 years old 75.4 million Population Population Math Math Problem Problem Generation X: 41-58 years old 65.9 million Millennials: 23- 40 years old 76.8 million Generation Z: up to 23 years old 67 Million
One Word to Describe the Motivations of Each Generation Baby Boomers- Security Generation X- Significance Millennials- Freedom (but not the freedom you might be thinking) Gen Z- Purpose
Born right after the end of WW II Largest generation of the history of the country at the time Baby Boomers- Security Lots of competition for money and employment Raised by parents who were familiar with the Great Depression Lived in an era of very limited access to information
First generation raised mainly by households with two working parents The latchkey kids Generation X- Significance Everybody gets a trophy 1980s focus on money, wealth and fame (Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous)
Millennials- Freedom Largest generation in the history of the country First generation to access to the combined knowledge of the history of the world since they were 5 (the internet) Want the Freedom to solve problems with creative solutions Don t tell them WHAT to do, explain WHY it needs to be done
Generation Z- Purpose The internet and social media are a major part of every day They are learning entities and expect it of themselves and their employment How does my work impact other people or the world in a positive way? Would I proudly tout my work on my social media sites?
