No Mow May Danville Selectboard Meeting April 21,2022
Purpose is to request Selectboard feedback about engaging Danville in No Mow May, an initiative to sustain native pollinators, specifically, bees. No Mow May is conservation initiative to preserve native bee populations. Native bees are under stress due to loss of habitat, pesticide use, etc Increase availability of forage by not mowing grass in May Allows lawn weeds to bloom (dandelions, white clover, violets) Recent WI study showed significant increase in: floral abundance and cover bee abundance (5x increase) bee richness (3x increase) reduction in use of fossil fuels included residential and commercial properties
Selectboard Input Interest in engaging town through town website/DCC Raise awareness Residents can register/participate Consider town property options for 2023
