Present Simple Form: Subject+ Verb (present/ V1) Use : 1. Habits & routines Eg: a. I drink Coffee everyday. b. My mother drinks coffee often. c. We go to church on Sundays 2. Facts Eg: a. My father is a doctor/teacher/an architect b. You sing very well c. Water boils at 100*c
Present Continuous Form: Subject+ is/am/are+V1+ing + Object Use: 1. Actions happening now (at the time of speaking) Eg: a. I am drinking coffee now. b. We are having breakfast. c. It is raining outside 2. Temporary actions Eg: a. Arun is learning to play guitar. b. I am watching an interesting TV series. c. My sister is staying in Delhi with her aunt.
Use of present continuous. Use : 3.Changes taking place/happening now Eg: a. Learning through U Tube is becoming popular these days. b. The price of petrol is increasing rapidly. c. Scientists believe that the Earth is getting warmer.
Past Simple Form: Subject+V2+Object Use: Completed actions in the past. Eg: a. I played football with my friends yesterday. b. My Mother gave a present on my birthday.
Past Continuous Form: Subject+was/were+V1(ing)+Object Use: Unfinished, ongoing action in the past Eg: a. I was having dinner, when the doorbell rang. b. It was raining, when I left for work. c. While I was waiting for bus, the car accident took place.
Present Perfect Form: Subject+has/have+ V3+ Object Use: 1. Experiences Eg: a. I have taught English to many students. b. My friend has visited France four times. 2.Recent action or events Eg: a. I have finished my homework. b. Arjun has lost his glasses. c. The Police have arrested the robbers.
Present perfect Continuous Form: Subject+has/have been+V1(ing)+ Object. Use: Action stated in past and still continuing Eg: I have been waiting to see the doctor for two hours/since 5 pm.
Past Perfect Form: Subject+had+V3+Object Use: The first past action(when there are two or more actions in past) Eg: a. I was sick because I had eaten too much previous night. b. The girl looked very familiar, I had seen her before.
Past Perfect Continuous Form: subject+has/have been+V1(ing)+Object Use: The first continuous past actions Eg: a. She had been waiting for two hours, the doctor finally arrived. b. The ground was wet because it had been raining.
Future Simple Form: going to, Present continuous, will 1.Going to Use: plans & intentions Form: Subject+is/am/are+ going to+V1(base) Eg:We are going to buy car. I am going to study regularly from tomorrow. 2.Present continuous Use: Fixed arrangements Form: Subject+is/am/are+V1(ing) Eg: I am having lunch with my friends tomorrow. We are flying to Mumbai next week. 3. Will Use: instant decisions, offers, promises Form: Subject+will+V1 Eg: a. At the restaurant Q-May I take the order for you? I will have burger.(instant decision) b. At the office The phone is ringing. I will get/hear it. (offer) Can you lend me 200 rupees, I will return you tomorrow. (promise)
4. Will & going to Use: Making predictions Will ----------predictions based on knowledge/personal experiences Eg: a. I think India will win the match. b. You should watch the movie. I m sure you will love it. Going to------predictions based on something in the present Eg: a. Look at the sky, it is going to rain soon. b. Mom is going to be really happy, when she sees my grades.
Future Continuous Form: Subject+will be+V1(ing) Use: Ongoing action in future Eg: At 11 am tomorrow, I will be going to Mumbai. Fixed /routine events Eg: I will be staying at The Taj hotel in Mumbai.
Future Perfect & Continuous Future Perfect Form: subject+will have+V3+object Use: Completed action in the future Eg: a. By June, I will have completed my degree. b. By 5 pm, we will have painted the wall. Future Perfect Continuous Form: subject+will have been V1(ing)+object Use: ongoing action in the future with duration Eg: a.By June, I will have been completing my degree for ten months. b.By 5 pm, we will have been painting the wall for six hours.
