With a focus on English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and tailored support, ELTC aims to assist students in adjusting to the academic culture of the UK through various programs and initiatives.

Supporting transitions into study Contributions to foundation and pathway programmes EAP for HSS International Foundation Programme EAP for CSE Global Select Pathway Programme Year-round and summer pre-sessional EAP programmes September June year-round pre-sessional Summer pre-sessional (4, 7 or 10 weeks) Summer online pre-sessional (8 weeks)
Supporting transitions during study Generic in-session support courses (English Language Support for International students programme, ELSIS) Not for credit Free of charge 1 10 weeks, most 4-5 weeks, once a week http://www.ed.ac.uk/schools-departments/english- language-teaching/courses/academic- purposes/elsis/elsis-courses Students must sit TEAM test
Supporting transitions during study Tailored in-session courses for specialised disciplinary and professional contexts Set-up through collaboration with schools and colleges, e.g Geosciences, Population Health Sciences: two face-to-face sessions Social and Political Science Academic Writing Course, College of Medicine and Vet Medicine Scientific Writing Course: online, over five weeks
Supporting transitions during study EAP courses for Visiting and Exchange students For credit (20 credits each) Run in collaboration with HSS Visiting Student Office E.g. Academic English for International Students (AEIS) 3 times a week for one semester Opportunity to progress to next semester Area due for expansion: AEIS for business and law students
Workshops for academic staff Designed to: develop academic staff awareness of language-related issues develop strategies to help students transition to an English-medium teaching environment Workshops on: international student writing cross-cultural communication communication in lectures supervising international students
