  2. Points to note Points to note Core subject for Leaving Cert and LCA. Leaving Cert English is broken down into TWO papers. Paper One and Paper Two are sat on two different days during the Leaving Cert. **** Strongly advise that if you did not do Higher Level in Junior Cycle English, you will not be prepared for Higher Level at Senior Cycle.

  3. Paper One Paper One Higher Level Higher Level Section I (100 marks). Section II (100 marks). Three reading comprehensions are presented to you on a general theme. Two sets of questions (A and B) follow each text. This is a long essay section where you must write an extended (personal essay, story, speech, debate, article, etc.) You must answer a Question A on one text and a Question B on another. Personal essay, Short Story, Speech, Debate, Article, etc.) Approx 5 pages in length

  4. Paper Two Paper Two- - Higher Level Higher Level The Comparative (70 marks) The Single Text (60 marks) Poetry ( 70 marks) You will study a play by William Shakespeare. For example, Macbeth, King Lear, Othello etc. Study a novel, play and film. Compare the three texts. Studied Poetry (50 marks) Unseen Poetry (20 marks) You will study the play in 5th year and go to see the play in 6thyear This is the section worth most marks in Paper 2. Studied or Prescribed poetry is poetry that you will have studied during 5thand 6thyear. How long should your answer be? It should be an essay of 4.5/5 pages 5 pages in length You will study 6 poems by 6 different poems. Total of 36 poems studied Essay style answer. 4 pages long

  5. Ordinary Level Ordinary Level Same texts and structure of exam. Questions are asked differently. For example Poetry section the poem is provided for you in OL. Not as much writing required in terms of page length

  6. LCA English and Communications LCA English and Communications 1. Credits achieved due to attendance and completion of the Key Assignments for each module (4 credits). Key assignments include studying films, novels, social media etc. 2. Oral examination (4 credits). Interview 3. Written examination (8 credits). Leaving Cert exam in June
