  5. Instructions The competencies section of the Unifrog platform allows you to list concrete examples of competencies, to support you in your future applications. A key competency employers and Universities favour is communication. This competency is transferrable to numerous sectors. In this activity, you will take part in engaging carousel style activities to practice and develop your communication skills.

  6. Instructions Carousel 1 Room 101 Carousel 3 Perfect Square Carousel 2 This is better than that Carousel 4 Say again? A competitive activity with one clear winner! A carousel which requires teamwork as well as communication. Patience will come in handy for this communication activity. A communication activity which involves problem solving.

  7. Instructions: Carousel 1 Room 101 Each person has 1 minute to think of something that they would like to put in Room 101; something that will be wiped from the face of the Earth! It does not have to be an object. Each person has 30 seconds to explain their decision and the rationale behind it. Other students should listen; no questions can be asked. When all students have spoken, the group should vote on which item will go into Room 101 and that student will be the winner!

  8. Instructions: Carousel 2 This is better than that You need to save the world from Godzilla. In your group, decide how and when you could use the objects below to complete your mission. Develop a detailed plan!

  9. Instructions: Carousel 3 Perfect Square Sit in a circle with each person holding a part of the string. Close your eyes and put the string on the table/floor and take a step away from the string. The task is to collaboratively form a perfect square with the string, whilst keeping your eyes closed.

  10. Instructions: Carousel 4 Say again? Round 1: In pairs, sit back to back. Person A will take the paper with an image on and describe that image to Person B, who must draw it. Person B cannot ask any questions. Round 2: Repeat the process, however Person B can now ask questions. Compare the images. Which is better? Why?

  11. Discussion Which activity was the most challenging and why? Why is communication an attractive quality to employers and Universities? How have you demonstrated communication skills in or out of school? Each activity allowed you to practice a specific part of communication. Discuss which activity practiced which sub-skill. -Active listening -Persuading and influencing others -Collaborative communication -Asking for clarification

  12. Your competencies Login to the Unifrog platform and record examples of when you have displayed communication skills. You might find this structure helpful when writing about your experiences.
