  1. Faculty Boot Camp A program to enhance faculty development

Purpose of the Faculty Boot Camp Provide you with the basic tools and information you need to be successful at UF Provide time for you to exchange ideas with faculty from other departments and begin to break down silos Allow you to develop a strong network of friendship and support outside of your division and/or department Be a nidus for development of new teams to tackle clinical problems with a multi-disciplinary approach

  3. Purpose of the Faculty Boot Camp To have protected time for you: To think about what you want your career to look-like To think about the skill s that you need to work on To think about your promotion

  4. Schedule of the Faculty Boot Camp First Two Hours will follow a Syllabus: Setting Expectations & Envisioning the Future How to begin preparing for promotion How to Provide Effective Feedback, to the Learner and the Program Director How to give an Effective Seminar Working with the IRB Developing a Research Question

  5. Schedule of the Faculty Boot Camp Last 30 minutes, breakout sessions Decide as a group whether you would like to: Collaborate on a small project Talk over the lectures from the resources you viewed over the past month Work through the statistics course The Jump into Statistics course will start September 7th at noon There will be 12 Bi-monthly Zoom lectures on Wednesdays at 12 noon 1 pm

  7. Faculty Boot Camp: What Comes Next? Faculty Boot Camp Clinician Educators Clinician Researchers Clinicians

  8. Clinicians- At the End of Boot Camp Would have: Basic skills necessary for effective teaching Instruction on how to provide formative feedback Some knowledge on how to initiate a retrospective study Manuscript writing strategies Knowledge of the work being performed by faculty in other departments of the college

  9. Clinician Educators- At the End of Boot Camp Would be: Paired with a clinician educator mentor Connected with resources: Society of Teaching Scholars High-quality faculty development videos focused on education: https://www.uab.edu/medicine/dom/education/meded- moments Encouraged to initiate an education project In a position, in a few years, to apply to be a Macy Faculty Scholar

Clinician Scientists- At the End of Boot Camp Would be in a position to apply to the Training and Research Academy for Clinical and Translational Science (TRACTS) Program for early career faculty who have an interest in pursuing clinical/translational research as a major component of their careers Directed by Ron Shorr, MD and Cyndi Garvan, PhD

  11. Pathway for Developing Clinician Scientists With Chair s approval With Chair s approval Faculty Boot Camp TRACTS KL2 day per month (~1.25%) Time commitment: 10% 50% 2 years Duration: 1 year 1 year

  12. Transitioning from Faculty Boot Camp to TRACTS After Boot Camp, you would apply to TRACTS Only those who have the Chair s support will be asked to join TRACTS Those who are lacking the requisite skills to take full advantage of TRACTS will be given feedback on how to improve

  13. Our PhD Colleagues Information to help make you better lecturers Provide the opportunity to you to meet and network with clinical faculty Give you the information necessary to prepare you for successful promotion

  14. A BootCamp Purpose is to bring all individuals up to the same level Please try to come to all lectures, even though you may not be interested in the topic The most important part of the BootCamp is the connections, if you are not hear, you will not make those connections
