  1. To request this document in an alternative format, such as large print or on coloured paper, please contact (insert contact name and email here). PowerPoint Template (title) Sub-title - logos are used for illustrative purposes, just swap these out.

  2. Optional coloured banner with your logo How to use this We want our conference and related materials to be ever more inclusive and so as part of this, we offer this slide deck from Edinburgh s Centre for Open Learning to conference delegates for their reference and/or use. This template embeds guidance on creating accessible PowerPoint presentations. It includes formatting tips and links to policies and further guidance. Please delete and edit these slides as required. Following the guidance will help to improve accessibility and signal our commitment to it, but shouldn t replace formal adjustments. Colleagues are encouraged to provide feedback on this to jenny.hoy@ed.ac.uk

  3. Tips on text formatting Use sans serif font types (e.g., Arial, Verdana, Calibri, Source Sans Pro, Crimson Pro). The font size in slides should be no smaller than 18pt. Align the text to the left. Use bold for emphasis, avoiding continuous capitals, italicisation and underlining. Avoid moving, flashing or scrolling text.

  4. Tips on text formatting Ensure all items remain within the slide itself instead of utilising text boxes, which is especially important for screen reader users. Ensure that all links have appropriate and informative descriptive text (e.g., Centre for Open Learning website).

  5. Tips on non-text content If embedding / using any video content, ensure it has human-corrected captions. Add alternative text to non-text content (e.g. images / graphs) by utilising the right- click option enclosed in this image:

  6. Tips on colours and contrast Colour should not be the only means of visually conveying information. Try to use textured patterns, different markers or symbols, or high contrast colour palettes to represent data sets. Use a pastel coloured background as opposed to white as default. Ensure good colour contrast between font and background.
