  1. From a neurodiverse or hearing impaired perspective Alex Merrett Presented at the North Yorkshire Equality and Inclusion Partnership meeting April 2022 Inclusive Online Meetings

  2. What do we struggle with? Noisy backgrounds where participants are not muted Videos not on when talking because we lip and facial expression read plus poor background lighting People not looking directly at camera when speaking Verbal only presentation that is long Virtual backgrounds can be distracting as there is some movement around people s heads

  3. How can you help? Host to mute everyone centrally Check your audio setting before each meeting Make sure you are close enough to the microphone Be mindful if two or more of you are looking at the screen from one device, you are further away and less audible/readable Used closed captions option availability when hosting a meeting. This works differently on Zoom and Teams.

  4. Hosts be proactive in finding out if participants need any adaptations ideally before a meeting, if they are not available as a default Don t be afraid to ask for an adaptation. If one person speaks up for what they need it can then encourage others to do so too Don t see needing an adaptation because of a disability as a weakness People getting their needs met Dis DisAbility Ability

  5. Presentations Clear colour definition between text and background Visuals to support text to help processing (don t forget to make them accessible for screen readers if the meetings include people with a need that requires them to use one) Don t make slides text heavy. Better to use more slides. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY
