  3. Gant (1) the network G ANT is the pan-European research and education network that interconnects Europe s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). Together we connect over 50 million users at 10,000 institutions across Europe, supporting research in areas such as energy, the environment, space and medicine. 03/06/2025 3

  6. Discussing campus (1) - SERENATE SERENATE final report 2003: In Europe, campus networks are now often the weakest linkin the chain of the end-to-end services needed for research and education. Therefore, universities and research institutes and their supervisory and funding authorities need to ensure that their campus networks are appropriately resourced. In general, expenditure for ongoing technical upgrade in campus networks is best treated as a budget expense on an annual basis. 03/06/2025 6

  7. Discussing campus (2) - EARNEST EARNEST Report on Campus Issues 2007: 52 recommendations for improvements e.g. Collaboration encourage all network support staff to collaborate with colleagues at other institutions, regional networks and NRENs Recommendations End-users should be presented in the process of developing policy documents that directly impact on services offered to them. National recommendations and guidelines for best practice would help to create such procedures inside institutions Organisemore regular workshops between NREN engineers and institution engineers on strategic issues for future of networking in the research and education community. IT keeps evolving at a fast pace. Technicians and engineers frequently have to adapt to new technologies (equipment, software, protocols, architectures, services etc.). It is vitally important that they are properlytrained to carry out the tasks expected of them. 03/06/2025 7

  8. Discussing campus (3) Campus BP task in Gant Campus Best Practice is a part of the G ANT project funded by the European Union. Campus Best Practice (CBP) aims to address key challenges for European campus networks. The CBP Team does this by organising working groups and providing an evolving and to-the- point set of best practice documents (BPDs) for the community. Work done during GN3 (2009- 2013) and GN3plus (2013-2015) projects. Continuing in GN4 (2015-) 03/06/2025 8
