WHY E-REPORTING Ministry of Fisheries Corporate Plans 2022-2023 Program 2: Sustainable Fisheries OUTPUTS ACTIVITIES RESPONISBILITY Output 21: Increasingly focused offshore and inshore fishery resource research, monitor and assessment to support decision making. 1. 2. 3. Annual data collection of inshore fisheries resources Stock assessment of key inshore fisheries resources. Stock assessment of key offshore fisheries resources (i.e Tuna, Snapper, Tuna Artisanal, squid). Scientific information and data reports submitted to national, regional and international bodies. Fisheries natural disaster, climate change impact and resilience assessment. Fisheries Science and Extension 4. 5. 1. Manage, Coordinate, Monitor, Review and Develop database systems for all fisheries data collection. (Regional and Local database systems). Conduct Data Quality Checks (DQC) to ensure the integrity and accuracy of fisheries data collected before reporting. Coordinate, Monitor, support, Implement and Liaise with SPC and FFA for Electronic Reporting (ER) Applications Programme. Coordinate, monitor, motivate and support the ER logsheets submissions from vessel masters, port samplers, data monitors and fishers. Coordinate and conduct the Fisheries Quarterly Data Working Group meeting. Fisheries Science and Extension Output 22: Improving the integrity and accuracy of fisheries data collection and management systems, for sound policy-development, better decision-making and responsible fisheries management. 2. 3. 4. 5.

  6. HOW WE DO IT Through in Country visit by SPC Through in Country training Through Zoom with SPC Through Slack Through Email

  7. THE TRAINING On a one to one basis with the sea captain and observers Onsite at the port when fishing vessels arrived During port sampling sessions with port samplers At the fishing company s premises that can be accessible by FFV captains and their staff.

  9. THE TABLETS Provided by SPC and the World Bank Project Distributed to Fishing Company with a signed Contract (annually renewed) between the Ministry, Fishing Company and the Fishing Vessel Captain The Domestic Company designed a separate contract between them and their vessel captains

OUR EXPERIENCES Greatly improved the quality of the data Evident timely submission of logsheets from sea captains and port samplers Evident timely reporting of data needs Less data checks / less work Very effective during unforeseen circumstances e.g COVID-19 restrictions The inclusive of our Snapper port sampling data is a highlight The multi language versions very effective Creates close collaboration with fishing companies Fisheries Staff capacity building Strengthens Fisheries Management Plans implementation
