  1. Assessing Faculty Development Needs: Research Informing the Potential Proposal of a Junior Faculty Leadership Development Program

  2. Recent trend - Junior faculty - increasingly come to job with little or no prior experience with governance - often do not develop this experience prior to promotion - struggle to participate and lead effectively in governance after promotion

  3. Needs Assessment - What are we currently doing to support and reward skilled participation and (eventual) leadership in shared governance for junior faculty? - What should we keep doing, stop doing, and start doing? - so that junior faculty have the knowledge, skills and abilities to contribute effectively

  4. A Needs Assessment - What gaps, if any, in junior faculty knowledge, skills, and abilities related to shared governance? - Is a leadership development program needed? - How, if needed, should a program be structured and delivered in a faculty-centered way?

  5. Timeline of the Needs Assessment - Phase 1: late March - April 2024 - interviews (n=10) - Phase 2: Fall 2024 - more interviews (voluntary) - analysis of interviews survey of faculty - report and recommendations

  6. What We Need - Support from AA - Permission, promotion from college leaders - Voluntary, confidential input from faculty
