The children will find out what happens at the beginning of Mass and reflect on what we should do. They will learn about the importance of listening to the Readings and discuss on how these Readings can help us. We will learn about the Offertory where gifts are offered to God and think about some of the gifts that we can offer. We will find out about the Consecration and reflect upon how important this is for us and know that it is Jesus we receive in Holy Communion. Curriculum Curriculum Plan Spring Term Two Spring Term Two Plan English English Issue 2 Writing: Focus text (Non-fiction): In this unit we will read a set of instructions for How to Make a Pompom. We will explore: How to follow and evaluate a set of instructions and gain an understanding of the structure, layout and sequence, imperative (command verbs) and how adjectives are used in instructions. Writing: Focus text (Fiction): Magic Boots by Ian Macdonald. We will explore: Story structure, conjunctions, suffixes and punctuation. Spellings: In spelling we will look at homophones, words ending in y , adding es to nouns and verbs ending in y , and adding ed, ing, er and est to a root word. This could be something as simple as how to make a jam sandwich or you might want to find a set of instructions for making something creative such as how to make a rocket using recycled materials. Maths Maths In Maths, this half term we will begin by looking at the properties of shape. In this unit the children will be able to recognise 2d and 3d shapes, count the sides and vertices on both 2d and 3d shapes, count faces on 3d shapes, lines of symmetry, sorting 2d and 3d shapes by their properties and making patterns with 2d and 3d shapes. In the second part of this half term we will be looking at Fractions. The children will learn to make equal parts, recognising and finding a half and a quarter, recognising and finding a third, finding three quarters and counting in fractions. Our Science topic for this half term is Squash, squeeze, bend and twist. As part of this unit of work, we will be finding out how the shapes of solid objects made from some material can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. Our History topic for this half term is around the history of vaccines. During this unit of work we will be looking at the work of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and how their efforts helped shape the standards of hospitals today. We will perform simple tests to answer questions we raise and gather and record data to help answer the questions. How to help at home How to help at home: Encourage your child to look around the home for things that can be bent, squashed, twisted and stretched. Your child might want to draw some of the things they find, make a list, take photographs or bring some of the objects into school. How to help at home How to help at home: Use google/you tube to find out more about the work of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Music Music PE PE This half term, in Music we will looking at another genre of music a Reggae song for children by Joanna Mangona. All the learning will be focused around one song Zootime. PE is taught by Mr Obasi This half term our P.E unit will focus on games linked to invasion. PE is Mondays along with Dance on Tuesdays PE is Mondays along with Dance on Tuesdays In dance we will be looking at encouraging children to think about the speed, weight and size of their movements in the context of toys from the past and present. We will investigate and evaluate existing products before having a go at using different techniques to join fabrics such as running stitch, glue, over stitch and stapling. How to help at home How to help at home: Encourage your child to create drawings of existing products where a joining technique has been used. Can they label it and try to identify the joining method used? PHSE PHSE Computing Computing This half term we will look at what data is and compare different methods of data storage. In this unit the children will learn how to turn data into information by creating different styles of graphs and charts. This half term, children will meet presenters Jayden and Josie and fictional character Super Susie. They will help children to understand and articulate their own changing feelings and how other people s feelings might differ from theirs. Children will learn how they can manage their feelings and about the consequences of their actions. How to help at home How to help at home: Talk to your child about different words they might use to describe feelings.
