  1. Decentralizing and enhancing the roles of the NAMA registry Africa Regional Workshop on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions 17-19 August 2015 Rwanda, Kigali Gopal Raj Joshi, Associate Programme Officer UNFCCC secretariat - Mitigation, Data and Analysis Programme

  2. NAMA approvers and NAMA developers, essential roles for an optimized use of the registry Quick summary of the NAMA registry roles NAMA Approvers (NA) are responsible for approving all individual NAMAs for their country before they are recorded in the Registry. They may Create, Edit, Update, and Delete entries for their country, as well as approve access for "NAMA Developers." There is only one Username and Password for this role for each developing country Party. NAMA Developers (ND) can Create, Edit, Update, and Delete their own NAMA entries as well as Submit them for approval like the NAMA approver but every action undertaken by ND has to be approved by NA.

  3. NAMA approvers and NAMA developers, essential roles for an optimized use of the registry The role of NAMA developers can facilitate the creation and the submission of NAMAs. NAMA registry NA Country B centralized NA Country A decentralized NAMA developer NAMA developer

  4. Diversifying the role of NAMA registry Parties and users have already realized the registry s usefulness as : Information sharing platform For sharing best practices, technical tools and information for designing and implementing NAMAs Authentic and official source of information, data and knowledge on NAMAs, and support needed and available for NAMAs. Promotion and marketing Platform To gain visibility for undertaking climate actions on the ground; To increase probability for obtaining international support

  5. The registry has a diversified role to play in long run Compiling and sharing best practices; Recording data with a view to improving emissions statistics and projections; Reporting implementation status of NAMAs and associated ex-post impacts (emission reductions and sustainable development benefits); Showing what works in terms of investment and support;

  6. The registry has a diversified role to play in long run Acting as submission portal for financial mechanisms under the convention, national and international support agencies; Official tracking of concrete climate actions on the ground (GHG emissions reduction targets/achievement) and associated support needs under the 2015 climate agreement; Official tracking of implementation of international support commitments for mitigation actions under the 2015 climate agreement;

  7. We would like to hear from you : Group 2 What are the potential challenges while adopting the decentralized approach for the use of the registry ? How they can be overcome ? 1 What uses/roles do you foresee for the registry in short, medium to long term? 2
