  1. Sponsor Diagram Sponsor Diagram Purpose A Sponsor Diagramshows all sponsors connected to a project on one page. Each of these sponsors has a role to play, and each has influence over people who will be impacted by the change. Therefore it is important for the OCM Lead to become familiar with each sponsor, even though there is typically only one Primary Sponsor who the OCM Lead interacts with on a regular basis. The diagram is a useful tool for the OCM Lead to see at a glance who the designated influencers are for the various impacted stakeholder groups. These sponsors are vital members of the Primary Sponsor s coalition.   2. Sponsor Diagram Sponsor Diagram Definitions for several Sponsor Types The Business Sponsoris responsible for the business side of change. This entails communicating directly with people in the business about the reasons for change and how they will be impacted, as well as ensuring the final products of the program satisfy the business needs. (This role may also be called the Managing Sponsor or Program Sponsor.) The Technical Sponsorchampions the technical work associated with a project. They support the Project Manager (PM) in the technical components of the project, and once the project is closed-out, typically does not remain with the change effort through reinforcement. (This role may also be called the Project Sponsor or Operational Sponsor.) The Executive Sponsoris the final decision maker or tie-breaker and frequently is at the top of the organizational pyramid. The executive sponsor may not be immersed in the day-to-day details of project execution. The Primary Sponsor is the primary contact for the OCM Lead, and works closely with OCM to communicate vision and reinforce key messages for the duration of the project. Sponsor Diagram Sponsor Diagram Construction & Coding Construction Instructions: See next slide for an example 1) Build a Sponsor Diagram, starting with the Primary Sponsor , the person the OCM Lead resource will meet with on a regular basis to plan sponsor actions and discuss the overall people readiness of the change initiative. 2) Fill in the names of all Business Sponsors, the people who are ultimately accountable for the people readiness inside specific departments or agencies. 3) Fill in the names of the Agency Directors to whom the Business Sponsors are organizationally aligned. (they are not necessarily direct reports) 4) Fill in the names of the Executive Sponsor and the Technical Sponsor. 5) The Primary Sponsor may be any of the sponsor roles; for example, the Executive Sponsor might be the Primary Sponsor. 6) Build the diagram to match the circumstances of your project. 7) Use PowerPoint, Visio, or any software you prefer to build this diagram. Coding Instructions: 1) Next to each person s name, assign a code, using the following guide: A=Supportive of the change; B=Neutral about the change; C=Opposed to the change 1=Previous sponsor experience, and, guided by an OCM Lead; 2=No previous sponsor experience, and/or, not guided by an OCM Lead. 2) Use the codes to determine which sponsors need the most support and coaching in effective sponsorship and change leadership. 3 Final Version as of February 3, 2020 For OCM guidance or assistance with the tools, please contact joe.banicki@das.ohio.gov at the Agency Engagement Center.
