  3. What do you know about the QEP/LA model?

  4. What is a QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan)? Required for all SACSCOC institutions as 50% of their reaffirmation of accreditation (every 10 years) Must be developed in consultation with constituents across the university MUST focus on student learning and/or student success ALL people on campus must be familiar with the QEP when SACSCOC comes for on-site visit (April 2-4, 2024)

  5. What is education reimagined. This QEP will work closely with faculty to implement the Learning Assistant (LA) model in their courses. The LA model is a form of peer-led team learning in which faculty redesign courses to include opportunities for students to engage in active and collaborative learning during class. Group learning is facilitated by faculty and trained undergraduate Learning Assistants (LAs).

  6. LA Program History Started in 2000 at University of Colorado, Boulder. Started at FAU in Calculus in 2014 Over 150 institutions world-wide

  7. What makes LA Courses Different? LAs are NOT content experts they are experts at helping students think about how to learn content in the course. LA classroom setting (student- centered) Traditional classroom setting (instructor- centered)

  9. Which courses have LAs at Florida Atlantic? Math: Calculus I in person and online* Boca and Honors College* Calculus II Intro to Calculus for Engineers Pre-calculus Algebra & Trigonometry Biological Sciences: Biological Principles* Boca and Honors College English English Composition I* Criminal Justice: Ethics and the Justice System* Chemistry: General Chemistry II * Course was selected as part of the spring 2023 QEP pilot

  10. How can faculty get involved? TEACH with LAs Due to COVID, our onsite visit is delayed until April 2-4, 2024 we cannot officially begin the program until after receiving SACSCOC approval. First call for proposals is anticipated for NEXT FALL (2024) Courses will be selected in November for redesign in Spring 2025, to be taught in fall 2025 Stipend for faculty to participate! Proposals will open each fall starting in fall 2024 SPREAD THE WORD Be PREPARED for SACSCOC onsite visit
