WHAT IS REMOTE SUPPORTS? The delivery of supports at a remote location through virtual means by paid staff or natural supports who are engaged with the individual through technology/devices with the capability for live two-way communication. Remote supports include a service component and a technology component. Equipment used to meet this requirement must include one or more of the following systems: Motion sensing system Radio frequency identification Live video feed Live audio feed GPS tracking Web-based oversight system Device that otherwise meets the requirements for two-way communication Developmental Services
VIRTUAL SUPPORT PARTNER (VSP) Agencies (either local or national) that collaborate with individuals and their teams to determine how remote supports can assist an individual in meeting their personal goals & what specific technology should be utilized Provide support to the individual via the identified remote support technology Contact on-call backup support when needed (based on individual's plan) Developmental Services
ON-CALL BACKUP SUPPORT Designated entity that receives notifications directly from the remote support technology or from the Virtual Support Partner (VSP) and responds when in-person intervention is needed. Provided by: -Designated agency that offers Individualized Home Supports (I.H.S) -Natural Supports: People who are familiar with the individual (ex. friend, family, neighbor, etc.) and can respond promptly if needed Developmental Services
BENEFITS OF REMOTE SUPPORTS Increased independence When individuals use prompts that the assistive technology devices provide, they take their learning into their own hands which, in turn, will support them as they develop their own life skills, rather than rely on the support of someone else. Relief for caregivers Caregivers can reduce the amount of direct support time and still feel assured that their loved one is safe with the technology and sensors in their home. Improved quality of life/Enhances privacy & dignity The use of remote supports allows an individual to feel safe and comfortable without the constant need for another person physically present.
