About Tours The Machame Route, highlighted for lush rainforests, breathtaking vistas of Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, good weather, and a high summit success rate, is popular for 6-7 day hikes. It begins at Machame Gate and continues down via Mweka Gate.
Start Your Tours Arrival: Pick up at Kilimanjaro Airport and travel 30 minutes to the booked hotel/lodge. Overnight stay with bed and breakfast.
Day 1 After breakfast, drive for 1 hour to Machame Gate. Begin the 2-hour rainforest hike to the Machame Hut Campsite (2,835m). This road is the most direct to Arusha or Moshi and is known for its breathtaking scenery. Dinner and stay at the campsite.
Day 2 After breakfast, climb for 4-5 hours through heather and moorland to Shira Cave Campsite (3,750m). Enjoy stunning views of Shira, Kibo, and Mount Meru in Arusha. Dinner and a night at the campsite. Full board is included.
Day 3 After breakfast, journey east over the chilly alpine desert to Lava Tower (4,600m) for a picnic lunch. Descend to Barranco Camp (3,900m) over a 6-hour hike. Dinner and overnight at the Barranco campsite. Full board is included.
Day 4 After breakfast, climb the Barranco Wall, which porters call "Breakfast," and warm up on the steep parts. After a picnic lunch at Karanga Camp, continue climbing to Barafu Camp (4,673m) for six hours, where you will spend the night on full board.
Day 5 Begin the 6-7 hour hike to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at midnight. Before descending to Barafu Camp for breakfast, spend twenty minutes taking pictures. For an overnight stay, continue for 3 4 hours to Mweka Camp (3,100m). Complete board is supplied.
Day 6 After breakfast, descend for 2 hours to Mweka Gate. Transfer to Arusha Safari Lodge (2 hours) and overnight stay at House of West Kili Lodge (bed and breakfast). On day seven, the driver will take you to the airport or your final destination.
