Add your outcomes an oveview Just a reminder there are four levels of information in SPOL assessment: Outcomes Measures Rubrics Measurements The measurement level is where you will enter your assessment data, but, you have to build the top three levels before you can get to the measurement screens. The next X screens give you instructions on how to build those top three layers
Add an outcome (Layer 1) Click on the add next to Program Departmental Outcomes Fill in the following fields on the create a new outcome screen Outcome number (pick whatever numbers makes sense to you) Outcome title (this is what will show up on reports that are run) Outcome type: choose Program Departmental Outcomes Description describe your outcome what are you measuring? (use broad and generic terms here) When you are done click on the save icon
Add a measure (Layer 2) Click on the add next to Measures Fill in the following fields on the create a new measure screen measure number (pick whatever numbers makes sense to you or - you can use the same number as the outcome you just built) measure title Description describe your measure what kind of tool/instrument are you going to use to measure your outcome? (TSA? Licensure Exam?) When you are done click on the save icon
Add a rubric (Layer 3) Click on the add next to Rubrics Fill in the following fields on the create a new rubric screen Rubric number (pick whatever numbers makes sense to you or - you can use the same number as the outcome and measure you just built) rubric title Rubric type choose benchmark Result type - choose quantitative analysis Numeric type choose percent Calculation method choose average Description describe your rubric HINT: most of the time the measure description can be directly copied and pasted into the rubric description Projected score - type in the % you would like your student learning outcomes to meet (in the past we have used 70% as a standard you are free to adjust this as you see fit) When you are done click on the save icon
Add a measurement (Layer 4) Click on the add next to Measurements Fill in the following fields on the create a new measurement screen Measurement notes: leave any notes for yourself or future leads/chairs/directors to know how, when, why you did the assessment you did Actual score: type in the percentage your students actually achieved for this outcome When you are done click on the save icon
Hints and notes. Please pay attention to the academic year you enter assessment data under, this may be confusing/different than the planning year you are working under for your annual plan For example, in SP of 2016 you will be making a departmental plan for 2016- 17, but would be entering assessment data into 2015-16. Your measurement effectiveness score can be over 100% SPOL compares your benchmark to your actual results, so if your goal was 70% and your students achieved a 72% - then your effectiveness score will be 102.9%, you were 2.9% better than you aimed to be
