  1. GRADUATION PROJECT Summer Project Tips and Suggestions

  2. Never assume that you wont need papers, receipts, sign-in sheets, pictures, or anything else that might remotely be used as evidence of completion of your project. TIP #1: SAVE EVERYTHING! In fact, ASK FOR RECEIPTS! Take MANY pictures Have someone at your event to take pictures for you KEEP EVERYTHING both in hard copy and digital

  3. Evidence can be, but is not limited to, any of the following: Pictures (YOU should be in them!) Receipts Fliers Visitor s badge from job shadows or volunteer experience Business cards Email/text communication The actual action portion itself (i.e. built something, wrote a book, created an album, made a movie, etc.) Fundraising copies of letters from donation recipients, checks/funds given, letter of acknowledging they received the donation, pictures of items donated ALL students are required to have the following job shadowing evidence: 3 interviews, 3-5 page written statement, and MLA Works Cited or Annotated Bibliography. ANYTHING you have that proves you completed your project. Just because it s not on the list, doesn t mean you can t use it. WHAT IS EVIDENCE FOR GRADUATION PROJECT? If it is an entry on your timecard, you should have evidence to show that you did that task for the allotted time frame.

  4. Your evidence for each check MUST be uploaded as a PowerPoint presentation. Each piece of evidence should be on its own slide with a caption describing what it is and which task it corresponds to. HOW DO YOU UPLOAD YOUR EVIDENCE? For each check, you will have two uploads: timecard (signed and commented by mentor), and evidence (as a PowerPoint). You will also need to complete TWO reflection prompts per check. Each reflection should be a minimum of one paragraph (5-7 sentences). Your final 3-5 page written statement will be uploaded as a word document in the Reflections tab in your Portfolio for the 3rdprogress check.

  5. There will be THREE Timecard checksone in the second, third and fourth nine weeks and you will be required to also complete two reflection prompts of what you did in that time period at each check. Journaling your experience each day you work on your project will be the BEST thing you can do over the summer. This will help you complete those three check points during the school year. TIP #2: JOURNAL YOUR EXPERIENCE Trying to recall what you did months later will be very, VERY difficult. Just take the time to write a few sentences down about what you did that day in a notebook. You will be very happy you did this later. You do not need to complete your project before the end of summer you were approved to begin early. You will still be responsible for the work and check points during the school year.

  6. TIMECARDS List dates on which work is completed Tasks accomplished on each date Time spent on each task Running total of hours spent on the Project Turn in a new timecard at each Progress Check due date Type timecard entries Obtain mentor s signature and comments on each completed timecard

  7. SAMPLE TIMECARD Can be downloaded from the Grad Project website

  8. Youve completed your project this summer Great! But you may have forgotten a signature or a form to be completed. Make sure you have access to your mentor throughout the school year. o You are required to complete a minimum of 3 mentor meetings throughout your project. o Timecards for each check must be signed and commented on by your mentor. o Project Verification Form: Must be completed by mentor to complete portfolio in April. TIP #3: STAY IN TOUCH WITH YOUR MENTOR

  9. RESEARCH/JOB SHADOW ORGANIZATION Research of the educational/training requirements for the career of choice (2-5 hours) Students must spend a range of 8-16 hours job shadowing their chosen professionals Interviews with no less than 3 individuals Completion of 3-5 page essay evaluating and reflecting on the research and the experience with Works Cited or Annotated Bibliography

  10. JOB SHADOW CHECKLIST Can be downloaded on the Grad Project website or found in the manual.

  11. ACTION PORTION This can vary depending on the selected career pathway. This should be between at least 2-10 hours of your project. You can never have too much evidence! Take pictures with YOU in them. Save all notes, receipts, emails, texts, etc.
