  2. Forms students should fill out and send to AIIS (aiis@uchicago.edu) Signed terms and conditions Medical form Medical evacuation insurance form Housing preference form Your travel itinerary complete with flight numbers and flight times Scan of the front page of your passport

Program information for students Students should go to www.aiislanguageprograms.org and then click on the relevant language to find full information about costs of food, housing, local transportation, etc. Housing options at their language program site Orientation information Typical weekly schedule and curriculum information Complete contact information for their language center Students should provide this web site address to their families so they will know how to contact the students if necessary

Getting the student visa Students will receive the visa recommendation letter from AIIS that they must include with their student visa application Go to www.indianembassy.org and follow the link to applying for your visa through Cox and Kings the consulates visa service You must apply for your visa from the consulate specified in the visa recommendation letter Apply for your visa at least four weeks prior to your departure for India If you do not apply in person, use Fed Ex or another secure service. Do not send your passport via regular mail

Clothing to bring and not bring Students SHOULD bring long pants, skirts that fall below the knee, shirts with sleeves that reach at least to the elbow, and COMFORTABLE shoes Students SHOULD NOT bring shorts, mini- skirts, sleeveless or strapless tops. Students can buy comfortable and appropriate clothing in India

Orientation Academic year/semester program orientation will take place Wednesday September 7, 2016 in New Delhi for Hindi and Urdu students and at the respective language centers for all other students (see www.aiislanguageprograms.org) Students must plan to arrive at their language centers by evening of September 6 except for Hindi and Urdu students who will arrive in Delhi by September 6. Hindi students will be transported by bus/van to Jaipur on September 8 and Urdu students should fly to Lucknow on the morning of September 8. Most students will land in India at the airport in Delhi and will travel to their language centers from there

  9. Arriving at the airport in Delhi Students will be met at the airport in Delhi. For international arrivals, upon exiting the customs area students should go to Gate 6 and look for Costa Coffee where the AIIS driver will be waiting. If you are arriving in Delhi from another city in India, go to Gate 2, and look for Costa Coffee where you will see the driver waiting Students should bring these numbers with them and call if they have any problem: they must call one of us from local booth ( Contact Numbers are : P. Students will be expected to follow AIIS regulations Students may NOT text or eat in class Students should not put their feet up on desks and chairs in class Students must come to class on time Students must ask the program head for approval for any absence Students must comply with host family rules about curfews
