  3. Professional Development is: Continuing education for licensed personnel Enhances a person s teaching skills Enhances the classroom environment Required for license renewal

  4. So who is responsible for Professional Development? YOU IT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE!

  5. Professional Development at USD 327 Professional Development Committee (PDC) Staff Development Plan Kansas State Department of Education

  6. Professional Development Committee (PDC) Committee is made up of: Two teachers from each building One Administrator Two District Leaders Secretary (non-voting)

  7. Professional Development Committee (PDC) Sabrina Bourbon Sarah Freeman Dan Magie Karl Dawn Stover Connie Weber Kim Whetzel (Secretary) John Cannon Deena Hilbig Traci Sallman Steve Thorburn

  8. Professional Development Committee (PDC) Duties: Develop/Implement Staff Development Plan Approve Individual Professional Development Plans (IPDP) Award points for professional development Monitor with fidelity the professional growth of teachers Attend annual PDC training (Chairperson and Secretary)

  9. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN 5-year plan Defines the PDC Provides guidelines for the PDC to govern Professional Development Explains renewal of license requirements Guidelines for professional development points Includes all the forms used in the Professional Development Program

Individual Professional Development Plan(IPDP) Completed annually, due October 1 Approved by PDC Includes District and Building Goals Includes an Individual Goals - stating how the activities will benefit your students If your personal goal(s) changes during the year then you will complete the Individual Professional Development Plan Amendment Originals are kept at the District Office

Professional Development Activity Must have a IPDP on file to attend activities Activity must support your IPDP goal(s) Must document activity in order to receive points Complete a Points Request in PDP Toolbox for each activity Building representative will review Points Requests prior to being added to monthly PDC agenda

  12. Professional Development Activity (cont.) An agenda, transcript, synopsis, etc. must be attached to Points Request Points Request must be submitted to the PDC within 30 days of attendance Points Requests are reviewed by PDC monthly (2nd Tuesday of each month) If approved, points are added to individual s Professional Development Transcript (PDP Toolbox)

  13. Why do you need to fill out Point Requests for your PD Activities? LICENSURE RENEWAL IT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE!

  14. What do you need to renew? Professional development points College credit hours (if applicable) Fingerprints and background check (if applicable) $$$

  15. What do I need to renew? All points must be approved by USD 327 PDC Renewal activities must be completed during the term of license Renewal should be submitted within six months of your expiration date (cannot be before then) It takes 6-8 weeks to process the application PLAN AHEAD! Fingerprints and background checks maybe required (if not previously done)

  16. License Renewal Process Ensure you have enough points for renewal Start the renewal process at Kansas State Department of Education website Inform the District Office (Kim) that you have started the renewal application so a PD Transcript can be uploaded

  17. District Office (Kim) will: Upload the PD transcript to KSDE Certify to KSDE that the individual is an employee of the district Licensed employee will: Receive an email stating that fees are due Receive an email that a new license has been issued Notify the District Office (Kim) a new license has been issued Update license expiration date in PDP Toolbox

  18. Personal PD File Recommended for every licensed staff member to have a file that includes: Individual IPDP Copy of license College Transcripts

  20. SALARY MOVEMENT Separate from Professional Development Movement is based on college degree and college hours Degree/Hours Class Steps BS I 0-11 BS + 12 II 0-15 BS + 24 III 0-18 MS IV 0-19 MS +12 V 0-21 MS +24 VI 0-25 MS +36 VII 0-26

SALARY SCHEDULE MOVEMENT College hours are certified by official transcripts Intent to Move forms are due by APRIL 1 each year to the District Office Official transcripts are due by SEPTEMBER 1 each year to the District Office Official transcripts must be requested by individual and sent directly to the District Office Official transcripts can be paper or electronic

  22. SALARY SCHEDULE MOVEMENT When college transcripts are received: Documented on the College Certification Form The College Certification Form and transcripts are maintained in personnel files by the District Office (Kim) Licensed staff can request to see their form at any time
