HISTORY OF ESSER GRANTS ESSER III-ALSO KNOWN AS AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN. SIGNED INTO LAW MARCH 11, 2021 $1.9 trillion economic stimulus package $122 billion for education nationwide JPS allocation - $22.2 million ESSER I- EXPENDITURE PERIOD ENDS 6/30/2022 ESSER II- EXPENDITURE PERIOD ENDS 6/30/2023 ESSERIII- EXPENDITURE PERIOD ENDS 6/30/2024 Requirement that 20% of funds to address learning loss
ALLOWABLE USES OF ESSER III FUNDS Purchasing cleaning supplies Purchasing additional educational technology Increasing mental health supports Adding instructional support for intervention or special education Enhancing supplemental learning Improving indoor air quality Repairing and improving facilities to reduce virus transmission Reducing environmental hazards Addressing learning loss Continuing to employ and/or hire new staff
ESSER III FUNDING TIMELINE Surveys sent to community via mass email, JPS website link, hard copies mailed out (November, 2021) JPS application submitted (December, 2021) Plan of use narrative submitted (February, 2022) Budget development/stakeholder meeting (June, 2022) Budget submission (June/July, 2022) Budget approval/grant funding (July, 2022) Budget amendment (June 2023) Budget amendment (Jan/Feb 2024) Grant fully expended (June 2024)
Final Update Funded approx.130 people over the last 2 years Curriculum and educational software updates at every level/building Professional Development for staff provided to address learning loss Sensory rooms at multiple buildings Using ESSER dollars for staff allowed JPS to make further investments in its facilities (i.e interior paint refreshes at MSP, JHS and SPA)
