Social Media and Orthopedics Establishing Your Online Reputation Disclosure: The information contained in this slideshow is intended to provide only general education about blogging in the healthcare industry. It should not be regarded as diagnostic, treatment or any other type of specific medical advice to anyone. Individuals should always consult a licensed and qualified health care provider for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment recommendations regarding their specific medical problem.
The Rise of Internet-First Medicine 83% of adult internet users search online for health information. 18-29 97% 30-49 - 96% 50-64 - 80% 65+ - 36%
The Rise of Internet-First Medicine Millions of patients are looking online for health information, and we have this information. We need to be there! But what s the best way to be there for patients? Website is a great start, but it can t be the only medium. We need to be blogging. Blogging allows us to be topical and relevant.
Finding New Patients Through Activities And Interests At least 80% of adults ages 18-65 are looking online for health information. They will likely be looking for wildly different information. Blogging about shared activities, interests and conditions allows us to create different content to reach a wider audience. Sports topics allow us to reach athletes, Child-centered topics allow us to reach concerned parents, content about diabetes helps us get seen by diabetics, etc. Also allows us to advertise our specialty services and help us stand out.
Content Creation Is Only Half Of The Battle How you share your content is sometimes more important than the content itself. How many of you are on at least on social media platform? How many of you are on at least five? Many are on one, but most aren t on all.
Content Creation Is Only Half Of The Battle Doctors need to be on many different social platforms. We share content to Facebook, Twitter, Google Business, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Allows us to reach all sorts of current and potential patients.
Improving Your Digital Presence By Blogging Daily blogging allows us to regularly put our content in front of readers and potential patients. Over time, our presence and the patient s engagement with it becomes habitual. Engagement fosters more engagement.
Expanding Your Reach Through Guest Blogs Who here has written or published guest blog content on their site? Guest blogs allow us to reach new, relevant audiences. Venn Diagram Guest Blogging
Reputation Management - Push Happy Patients Online For Reviews Most patients who have a positive experience would be more than happy to leave a quality review. Most won t do this on their own. Find ways to give them that little push they need.
When Your Reputation Takes A Hit At some point, we all receive negative reviews. But this can be a good thing as long as you know how to respond. But how to respond? Kill with kindness and always try to offer to fix the issue as best you can. Don t just try to bury the bad review with good ones without first addressing the concerns in the negative review.
When Your Reputation Takes A Hit 5-star reviews are great, but they can get glossed over. You learn more about an interaction from the 1-star and 4-star reviews. Working to find a solution for a disgruntled patient patient can be better than a 5-star review. Responding to criticism helps showcase that you care, and that s what patients want to see. You can t control every factor in surgery and recovery, but you can control how you work to help a patient find a satisfactory solution to their problem when something goes awry.
It Only Takes One Mistake To Tank Your Online Presence Your online reputation is like a deck of cards. Piece by piece you build it up, but all it takes is one mistake for it to all come crashing down. So how can you avoid going viral for all the wrong reasons?
Rules To Remember When Posting Online When in doubt, leave it out. If it could even remotely lead to a HIPAA violation, don t share it. Assume all content can be viewed by patients, supervisors, parent companies, etc. Doing something unintentionally doesn t mean you re off the hook.
The 10 Commandments Decide on your direction. Clarify your credentials. Contribute to the conversation. Disagree with dignity. Content is king. Don t feed the trolls. Connect with contributors. Curate your circle. Engage with a community Mind your microphone.
In Summary We increase our online reputation by regularly creating quality content, and sharing it across many forms of social media. Go the extra mile with guest blogs and by making a concentrated effort for positive reviews. Turn negative interactions into a positive by empathizing, engaging and trying to help if possible. Blog and share content in such a way that you won t go viral for all the wrong reasons.
