Office of Ethics Education and Policy Management 2015-16 Chancellor s Working Groups on Policies and Procedures and Ethics and Integrity. Three shared recommendations: Awareness and Promotion: Encourage a culture of ethics and integrity, and help the University community be aware of the resources available for everyone to take an active part in upholding University expectations and values. Monitoring and Reporting: Identify policies and procedures that need review gaps or conflicts share recommendations act as a clearinghouse for reporting concerns and violations . Policy Management: Manage a central web repository for all policies across the University, enabling consistent and clear policies and providing implementation support for the entire policy lifecycle.
Ethics and Integrity: More Than Just Who We Are Beyond our own honesty, morality, probity Collective responsibility: A culture of integrity Stewardship of resources Protection of vulnerable persons Responsibilities as peers and bystanders Minor and major misuses of power Research misconduct Faculty incivility Impairments, personal problems, cognitive decline
Ethics and Integrity: More Than Just Right and Wrong Ethical dilemmas emerge in competing goods or Right vs. Right situations Justice vs. Mercy (ex. Plagiarism) Truth vs. Loyalty (ex.
