Principles of Eureka Math Teaches all parts of math are connected & work toward complete understanding of math as one unit Sequential math modules (lessons on one concept of math) begin by layering key concepts year after year beginning in Kindergarten Uses same teaching models and strategies from grade to grade to promote clearer understanding of total math picture Teaches basic/advanced math understanding through problem solving and strategizing instead of memorization Covers entirety of math knowledge instead of isolated, unrelated math skills
History/Structure of Eureka Math Created by more than 299 teachers/math experts Led by Scott Baldridge, Louisiana State University math professor Program writing done in 2012 and finished in 2014 Program and materials online and free Modules/Units sequential and based on real life stories Students must develop problem solving skills to solve math problems Eureka teaches several strategies to solve every problem with all methods being correct Eureka goal is teach students understanding of math for use in life.
Linking Math Concepts in Eureka Problems organized into stories relating math to real life Stories organize State standards into concepts to improve students understanding of new learning Progression of learning moves from simple to complex Concepts continuously repeat for long term memory Students grow more confident with repeated familiar teaching methods and daily practice Repeated content ensures complete understanding/use of math practices in the future
