This study focuses on the prevalence of nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) in the uninsured population, identifying at-risk groups, and evaluating the impact of free dermatology services provided by Lubbock Impact Dermatology Nights.

Lack of access to medical insurance is a barrier to positive health outcomes for many Lubbock dermatology patients. INTRODUCTION Some populations may be more at-risk. What resources are available to those populations?
The prevalence of nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) within Lubbock s uninsured population. METHODS Who are the most at-risk groups within the uninsured. WE HAVE COLLECTED AND INCORPORATED STUDIES FOCUSING ON: The free services offered to this population through Lubbock Impact s Dermatology Nights events.
RESULTS: PREVALENCE IN LUBBOCK Significantly higher incidence of NMSC in Lubbock uninsured patients (1.4%) compared to the US population (0.65% - 1.05%). 16.1% of the Lubbock, Texas population is uninsured.
RESULTS: MOST AT RISK Gender doesn t seem to play a significant role (p > 0.05). The most at-risk age group is within 50-64 years old (2.8%, p < 0.05). The race most affected by NMSC in Lubbock is Caucasian.
LUBBOCK IMPACT DERMATOLOGY NIGHTS Diagnosed 35 NMSCs in 15 patients from January 2018 to 2020. Each dermatology patient encounter at Lubbock Impact costs on average $61.86. From 2018 to 2019, the program cost: $4120.85. From 2019 to 2020, the program cost: $4291.52.
CONCLUSION Lubbock patients are at greater risk of developing NMSCs. Age and race play a role, but not gender. Lubbock Impact offers an effective service at a relatively low cost per patient.
