EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ENERGY AND THE CLIMATE
WHAT IS ELECTRICITY? What is electricity? | STEM kids Introduction to electricity for kids! Learn what electricity is, how to make an electric circuit with a switch, and what materials are electrical conductors and insulators! Check out our hands-on STEM activity videos to learn how to create all sorts of inventions at https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaisj5ariFBeHOudb4ndQl5kz8GChi8uI Learn what electricity is made of, and how electrical circuits work to move electricity through conductive materials. WHAT ARE SOME WAYS OF GENERATING (ELECTRICAL) ENERGY?
IN 2019-20, AUSTRALIAN ELECTRICITY WAS GENERATED FROM: 55 PERCENT COAL SOURCES 21 PERCENT GAS SOURCES 23 PERCENT RENEWABLE SOURCES, SPECIFICALLY; - 8 PERCENT FROM SOLAR - 8 PER CENT FROM WIND - 6.4 PER CENT FROM HYDRO (WATER)
RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY ARE REPLACED BY NATURAL PROCESSES QUICKER THAN THEY ARE BEING USED. E.g. solar, wind
NON-RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY ONLY EXIST IN LIMITED DEPOSITS IN VARIOUS PARTS OF THE EARTH. E.g. coal, oil, gas.
BURNING FOSSIL FUELS IS A MAJOR SOURCE OF GREENHOUSE GASES
CURRENTLY, 24 GIGATONNES OF TOTAL ANNUAL CARBON EMISSIONS ARE EMISSIONS FROM ELECTRICITY AND HEATING GENERATION.
IF, BY 2025, 50% OF ELECTRICITY WORLDWIDE COMES FROM ZERO-EMISSIONS SOURCES, AND BY 2035, 90% OF ELECTRICITY WORLDWIDE COMES FROM ZERO-EMISSIONS SOURCES, THIS ALONE WILL REDUCE THESE EMISSIONS BY 16.5GT.
CAN 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY POWER THE WORLD? Can 100% renewable energy power the world? - Federico Rosei and Renzo Rosei Check out our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/teded View full lesson: https://ed.ted.com/lessons/can-100-renewable-energy-power-the-world-federico-rosei-and-renzo-rosei Every year, the world uses 35 billion barrels of oil. This massive scale of fossil fuel dependence pollutes the earth, and it won t last forever. On the other hand, we have abundant sun, water and wind, which are all renewable energy sources. So why don t we exchange our fossil fuel dependence for an existence based only on renewables? Federico Rosei and Renzo Rosei describe the challenges. Lesson by Federico Rosei and Renzo Rosei, directed by Giulia Martinelli. Thank you so much to our patrons for your support! Without you this video would not be possible!
