  1. DUSA Guidelines for Catering at Club Events Created to support student clubs easily identify what needs to be done for event catering. 2020.

  2. Types of catering scenarios we often see 1. Catering from Deakin Food Outlets provided for event occurring on campus. a) Professional catering by Deakin Food Providers (On Campus Businesses) 2. Self Catering by Club/Individual a) Self catered food on campus. b) Self catered food off campus. c) Takeaway for small numbers (Pizza) d) Attendees BYO Food. e) Pre-packaged food distributed (Muesli Bars, 2 minute Noodles etc.) 3. External Catering Company provides food a) Food Truck on off campus at event. b) Non Deakin catering company providing food. (Cooking On/Off Deakin campus, but event held at Deakin) c) Catering company included at event venue (Venue External to Deakin i.e. bar or function venue) d) Catering company comes to external venue or provides food to a venue not at Deakin. (i.e. Community hall/Park)

  3. 1. On Campus, Deakin Catering The preferred option that the university has for Food Service on the grounds of the university is to use one of the onsite catering companies. These can be found via https://food.deakin.edu.au/ Clubs booking with these providers can be assured that the food served meets the Deakin Healthy Food Charter and is a simple, stress free and easy way to complete catering on campus.   4. 2. Self Catering by club / individuals Minimum At least one person present to have completed a nationally accredited Safe Food Handlers Certification. Provide evidence of this to DUSA at least 14 days prior to the event date. Best practice for all students involved in catering food to have completed the free online Do Food Safely course (Free online course found here ) as a minimum. Risk Assessment outlining the food handling considerations for the event submitted with Event Package for approval. (I.e. you may wish to restrict reheating of food if self catering to avoid risk) Considerations Cooking with portable gas/open flame on campus is subject to additional approval speak with your Clubs Coordinator. If selling food directly to students. (i.e. Food Truck/Club Stall selling food) Understand the class of food being sold & relevant legislation by following the simple guide here http://communityfood.health.vic.gov.au/wordpress/ Evidence of Statement of Trade through Streatrader.

  5. 2. Self Catering, Off Campus At least one person present to have completed a nationally accredited Safe Food Handlers Certification. On Campus, External Catering (page 1) In order to have an external catering company/food truck deliver or provide catering for a club event on campus this must be approved by Deakin prior to finalising arrangements for catering and is subject to approval as a requirement of room bookings. Club will need to provide: Rationale as to why you are seeking external catering cost, offering, cultural or event significance. Risk assessment outlining the delivery/service arrangements of food being brought onsite. External Provider of Catering will need to provide; Certificate of Food Registration provided. Certificate of Currency for public liability insurance provided. Menu for HEASS assessment see http://foodchecker.heas.health.vic.gov.au/ If selling food directly to students. (i.e. Food Truck / club Stall selling food) Evidence of Statement of Trade via https://streatrader.health.vic.gov.au/

  7. 3. On Campus, External Catering (page 2) If cooking of food is to occur on site (i.e. not just delivered to campus) Certificate of Currency for Work Cover Insurance provided. Evidence of Food Safety Program/confirmation of Food Safety Supervisor for event. If using portable Gas (LPG) to cook , Gas compliance certification provided. Deakin Infrastructure Property Group - contractor management System for induction to campus completed by visiting business. DUSA staff will assist with this.

Off Campus, External Catering At a minimum the following should be requested from any external catering used at an event/venue; Certificate of Food Registration (of business) Certificate of Currency for public liability insurance. Evidence of Food Safety Program/confirmation of Food Safety Supervisor for event.

  9. Get ready for Event Day! To be displayed on Event Day/with any service of Food. (Best practice is to obtain this certification prior to booking if using any provider) Think Sustainable how will the club serve food, dispose of leftovers / rubbish. If serving Kosher meals, All references to KOSHER must be supported by Kosher Certificate on Display. If serving Halal, All references to HALAL must be supported by Halal Certificate on Display.
