Im not (officially) different though! Many students don t know they learn differently until they are studying at a university Universal Design for Learning Working in non-traditional ways that work for many Individual uniqueness Strengths based
Different not broken We all have differences in how we learn Some of these are more obvious to other people and ourselves Others have yet to be discovered by ourselves
Metacognition how do YOU learn? Just because your friend or lecturer tells you they learn one way, doesn t mean it will work for you. UCL may well have over 50,000 different ways of learning within its population. If you know your ways work for you great!
Metacognition a superpower! Try different ways of learning Use your skills and strengths Use your senses Visual e.g. if you remember pictures and where things are placed Aural e.g. if you remember music and spoken word Kinaesthetic e.g. if you remember where you were during a learning experience and how you moved
Multisensory revision ideas Visual ideas: Pictures Mind maps Colour Aural ideas: Record your notes and listen back Tell a classmate or friend Use text to speech to listen Kinaesthetic ideas: Sticky notes on a wall Revision notes around a space Perform your notes
Helpful tech available for all at UCL Make use of it all! Built in tools like: Text to speech/read aloud Speech to text/dictate Calendar put in your exam dates & coursework deadlines and when you aim to work on preparing for them Create a revision timetable To dos put write to do list at the top a quick win
