Entry Task Take out a piece of blank paper Put your name and period in the upper right hand corner
In Class Test 50 multiple choice questions Covers page 3-202 Due at the end of the period I m just kidding :)
Movie Creation Choose a famous actor/actress for every character in the novel Write an explanation as to why you cast that person for their particular role Then take 5 scenes from the novel and provide 5 songs that you would have playing during that scene, if you were creating a movie
Comic Strip Choose one scene from the novel Create a 6 box comic strip acting out the scene Provide dialogue between the characters within the scene Needs to have some color
Salinas Valley Map Research the current view of the Salinas Valley on Google maps, Mapquest, or map of Monterey County Understand the size of Salinas Valley and the relative location between the main cities mentioned in the book Then create a map of the Salinas Valley including the current view and the description Steinbeck gave Don t forget the river and mountains!
Dear Abby Article Pretend you are Cathy writing in about one of her many life circumstances to the Dear Abby column of the newspaper You will need to write Cathy s letter explaining the situation asking Abby for help, as well as Abby s response to Cathy Be creative, Cathy is evil and manipulative so how might she explain the situation to Abby? Cathy s letter should be about of a page and Abby s response page
Short Answer Questions With everyone contributing, give a summary of the book up to chapter 18. What has Steinbeck done to establish the exposition and conflict of the plot? Mr. Ames always suspected his daughter Cathy was capable of evil, yet kept his suspicions to himself. Do you think Cathy s life may have been different had he attempted to intervene? Is there any reason to believe Cathy could have been anything but a monster ? How does Cyrus Trask manage to become an influential military strategist for the United States government? How does war function as a backdrop for East of Eden? Which characters and events in the novel are most significantly impacted by war? As an adult, Charles longs for his brother s companionship even though Charles and Adam are not close. Why do you believe Charles tries to preserve a relationship with his brother despite their violent history? Why doesn t Adam want to return home after he is discharged from the military? Why would he rather reenlist, even though he detests violence? So far, what is the importance about this novel? In other words, how does it or will it help us understand ourselves? What is its contribution to the dialogue on the human condition so far?
