  1. Welcome to Year 4 WHAT TO EXPECT THIS COMING YEAR

  2. Welcome to Year 4 CLASS TEAM: MS WOODS MONDAY TO THURSDAY MRS GORDON FRIDAYS MRS OSBOURNE PPA TUESDAY AFTERNOONS MRS CARTY TEACHING ASSISTANT EVERY AFTERNOON MRS BECK TWO MORNINGS A WEEK (THIS MAY CHANGE)

  3. Transition The aim is to make the move from Year 3 to Year 4 as easy as possible. Mrs Beck will be with us some of the time and she knows them Core aims will be similar Interventions and support will remain in place They will still be possibly be taught Music by Miss Johnston Miss Johnston will be very involved with our SEND children still due to her new role as SENDCO assistant Mrs Osbourne will be covering PPA time Tuesday afternoons, they know her Mrs Carty will be in every afternoon they know her They have been taught by Mrs Gordon at times and so know her Homework will run in the same way as Year 3, as will Reading Record books We had a lovely Transition Day together where we got to know each other a bit better and the children were spoken to about expectations etc

  4. What will be different? There will be some changes, of course. The children will be expected to be more self-reliant. Greater emphasis on times tables. There will be a multiplication check near the end of Year 4. Our class country will be Italy. Our class author is C.S. Lewis (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe).

  5. What they will learn Our topics next year will be Game On, Make a Change, Italy and the Romans, our class author, Inventive Victorians, How have we changed? We are hoping to have trips to a Roman villa (either Bignor or Fishbourne dependent on price and availability), a local history walk and Preston Manor. In the Autumn term we will hopefully have a drama group in for an Internet safety themed workshop. Maths and English will be taught four to five times a week. Science will be weekly. Other subjects will be weekly or blocked. We will be swimming all year- every Wednesday afternoon. We walk to White Meadows school to use their pool. They are assessed and taught to their ability by the qualified swimming teacher there. This is not optional as it is part of the National Curriculum, a legal requirement. This has been a great success with the current Year 4s with good progress being made in confidence and ability. More information to follow so please keep an eye out!

  6. What you can do to help It s very simple: The more they read the better they will be. The more they practise their times tables the better they will be. A firm grasp of both of these skills will vastly increase the chances of success. Support with homework Please talk to us as soon as possible if you have a concern or question or need to let us know important information in most cases it is better to come direct to the class team. I will provide my email address (Ms Woods) in the newsletter that is sent out to you at the beginning of the new term.
