  2. PERSONAL ASSISTANT L4 TOPIC 7 EXPERTISE AND RESOURCES (MODULE 23) DETERMINING CRITERIA FOR EXPERTISE AND RESOURCES.

  3. OVERVIEW At the end of this module you will be able to: Identify expertise and resource needs and include required competencies and attributes. Produce estimates of resource needs. Confirm expertise and resource needs with key persons and obtain authorisation within scheduled timeframes. Set clear, concise criteria for expertise and resources.

  4. What is resources and expertise? Resources refer to those things needed by the business to produce product and service needed by customers. e.g people, materials, equipment, information etc Expertise refers to somebody who has a broad and deep competence in terms of knowledge, skills and experience through practice and education in a particular field.

  5. Resources can be categorised as follows: People/human resource They are needed in the organisation to do specific job so that the business can give customers what they want. Money/capital Is the money that is needed to start the business and keep it running. Physical resources Is the resources that can be seen and touched. e.g land, building, equipment etc. Information- This include knowledge and skills that business must have.

  6. Unit 23.2 Estimating resource needs. Managers must estimate how much of resource will be needed for each activity that has to be carried out. Can be done by using past experience or by speaking with experts who are able to give their opinion. Resources are limited, need to be used in the best way to avoid over cost. NB!!!check an example on page 251

  7. Unit 23.3 Obtaining authorisation Resources are expensive and need to be used in a proper way This means that every organisation will have specific people who have the authority to assign or prove the use or resources. Financial managers are responsible for this. NB!!! Please check an example on page 253 and do an activity on page 254

  8. Unit 23.4: Setting criteria for expertise and resources When specifying the need for expertise and resources, it is very important to be clear and concise so that you will be able to know what resources needed. Check an example on pg257 the second paragraph
