Arable farm facts 1.Arable means capable of producing crops and suitable for farming. 2. Arable farming (land that can be ploughed to grow crops) is concentrated in the south and east of the UK where the climate is drier and soils are deeper. 3. One in four farmers said climate change was already having an impact on their business.

An arable farmer normaly: Ploughs fields used for arable land before crops are planted on them Grows crops on fields and then harvests them Sells the crops they grow, which are used to make the food we eat What is arable land? Well, it s land that is ploughed or tilled regularly, usually under a system of crop rotation, which means that different types of crop are grown in the same area from one season to the next. Permanent crops that occupy the land for a number of years and don t need replanting after a harvest are not counted as being on arable land.
