  2. Learning Outcomes Good Even Better (C-B grade skill) Excellent (A-A* grade skill) (E-D grade skill) Answers will be based on narrative, with some discussion based on the character of Mrs Lyons and the Narrator Answers will be more focused, with solid knowledge of the text used to support judgments. For B, answers will be sustained and thoughtful. Answers will be astute, evaluative and assured, and for A*, perhaps, original.

  3. Dont forget to reflect when you can Use the information we have discussed to write about character presentation For example In Russell s presentation ofMrs Johnstone we see she struggles to care for her large family: Ey Mother, I m starvin an there s nothin in. There never bloody well is. Here we see that Mrs Johnstone finds it difficult to provide for her large family as her children are hungry. The use of the word bloody by Kid Three suggests that the children are not well behaved and swear at, or in front of, their mother, emphasising the sense of her struggling to cope. Russell seeks to highlight the struggle for some families and perhaps make the audience get a sense of the reality of the poverty in Liverpool at the time. Point Evidence Explanation Reflect

  4. MRS LYONS They say that if either twin learns that he was one of a pair, they shall both immediately die. it means, mrs Johnstone that these brothers shall grow up, unaware of the other's existence they shall be raised apart and never, ever told what was once the truth. you won't tell anyone about this, mrs Johnstone. because if you do, you will kill them Link back to page 9-10

  5. Here the Narrator sings about the Devil knocking at your door , who else has knocked at Mrs Johnstones door? Shoes upon the table an' a spider's been killed. Someone broke the lookin' glass a full moon shinin' an' the salt's been spilled. You're walkin' on the pavement cracks don't know what's gonna come to pass. Now y' know the devil's got your number, y' know he's gonna find y', y' know he's right behind y', he's starin' through your windows he's creeping down the hall. Ain't no point in clutching at your rosary you're always gonna know what was done even when you shut your eyes you still see that you sold a son and you can't tell anyone but y' know the devils got your number y' know he's gonna find y', y' know he's right behind y' he's standin' on your step and he's knocking at your door he's knocking at your door, he's knocking at your door. What role does the Narrator play here?
