Electronic Literarture BY SONIKA MISHRA
Electronic Literature Electronic literature, or e-lit, refers to works with important literary aspects that take advantage of the capabilities and contexts provided by the stand-alone or networked compute. So much depth is being expressed through this minimalist form of language, lacking in all the stereotypical attributes of the field of literature. I shall attempt to question the effectiveness of this new media literature and attempt to give examples of something that presents the same features but puts the message forward with better clarity
Example of poorly structured Electronic Literature
Young Hae Chang Industries Young-Hae Chang Heavy Industries ( ) is a Seoul-based Web art group, formed in 1999, consisting of Young-hae Chang and Marc Voge. Although, I don't appreciate this new form of literature, it is often bemusing to see how so much depth is being expressed through this minimalist form of language, lacking in all the stereotypical attributes of the field This digital representation of language and ideas is not only short-lived but doesn't manage to make a true impact in the mind of the viewers, unless it is watched analytically and given complete attention.
Better forms of electronic literature
Where Rainbows End The novel by Cecelia Ahern, utilizes emails, chat messages and texts to elaborate upon the story and completely let go of the narrative stance. This form of writing is not only simplistic and utilizes minimal effort but it allows perspectives of all major and minor characters. It allows the readers to dive deep into the disposition of each character, through their own words and are even given a better insight into character dynamics.
Embrace This visual poem by Willem Martinnot helps whic combines visual elements and textual. This helps provide a setting for the reader and allows them to experience poetry in a much more holistic manner, with the artist having control over the viewer/reader. It is also an example of how a poetry experience can be bettered, by allowing the viewer to experience synesthesia and give an opportunity for the words to seep into their minds.
Conclusion I believe that new media literature is a lot less censored, asks existential questions and allows us to look at how human thinking, through a medium that appeals to our changed manner of reading. This method, despite instilling its message, doesn't allow for it to sink in. The videos by YCHI are vital to the new movement of liberalism , yet they doesn't deliver the true purpose of literature.
